Coleen is determined that history won’t repeat itself after husband Wayne is pictured on a boozy night out

Despite their well-documented ups and downs, Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s marriage appeared to be stronger than ever in recent years.

But Coleen has been left feeling humiliated by her husband once again, after reports that he was seen enjoying a boozy night out with two mystery women until the early hours at a pre-BRIT Awards party.

And the mum-of-four is said to be furious at the news. An insider tells Closer, ‘Those images of Wayne out drinking at the BRITs were enough to reopen wounds that she thought had finally healed. She was livid. Not just annoyed – properly angry. She felt humiliated all over again. She’s forgiven so much in the past, so to see him out again and putting himself in that situation felt like history threatening to repeat itself.’

Photos emerged last week of Wayne at a Manchester hotel after a party. He had been at the hotel with pop star Calum Scott before catching the attention of two unnamed women, one of whom was with her boyfriend. The group was also joined by a male pal of Wayne. Witnesses described the former professional footballer as looking ‘worse for wear’ after knocking back drinks throughout the evening, and at one point struggling to do up his trousers after a trip to the toilet.

The photographs of his partying will bring back bad memories for Coleen, who regularly saw her husband in the headlines during the early days of their marriage due to his partying ways and well-documented years of philandering with other women, including escorts. In a clear indication of how she’s feeling, Coleen – who is currently promoting her new clothing range with high-street giant Primark – was spotted without her wedding ring while running errands in Cheshire days after Wayne’s night out.

‘She took off her ring to make a point,’ says the insider. ‘She wanted him to understand how serious she is. She hates the optics. After everything they have been through, why put yourself in a hotel bar with random women until three in the morning? It looks terrible.’

Wayne’s partying has landed him in plenty of hot water over the years, from being caught drink-driving in 2017 with Laura Simpson, to being arrested at Washington DC airport for public intoxication and swearing in 2019. Last year, Wayne, 40, emotionally revealed that Coleen, 39, had helped him cut down on booze, adding, ‘I honestly believe if she weren’t there, I’d be dead.’

In recent years, the couple – who married in 2008 after meeting as teenagers – appeared to be in a good place. Their first family reality show, The Rooneys, is in production with Disney+, and Wayne has been spending much more time at home since becoming a football pundit, which Coleen has said is ‘good’ as they’ve ‘never had that much time together’ in the past.

But with everything going well, our insider says Coleen is not prepared to be embarrassed by Wayne’s partying anymore.

The source says, ‘Professionally, Coleen is thriving. She knows her worth. She is not financially or emotionally dependent. She has told Wayne he needs to grow up. No more embarrassing nights. No more headlines!’
