Alesha Dixon has shed more light on Britain’s Got Talent’s new Golden Buzzer rule by letting slip a major twist that is yet to be announced. This first semi-final in the 2025 series is set to take place on Saturday and for the first time ever, the judges or Ant and Dec will be given a chance to use the Golden Buzzer during the live shows.

By using the Golden Buzzer, one of the judges or Ant and Dec will be able to send a semi-finalist straight through to the final before they face the public vote. Now, Alesha has revealed that there’s one more twist yet to be revealed – the judges don’t know who will be given that power until the episode airs.

“Each live show, we don’t know until the night which judge gets the control over the Golden Buzzer,” Alesha said on ITV’s Lorraine. “So we’re really excited about that.”

When asked how they’ll decide who gets the power, she said: “Yeah, paper, rock, scissors? How you feel in the moment. But the live shows are just so exciting Lorraine, there’s such a beautiful energy. As a performer, I know how they’re going to be feeling. They’re going to be so nervous.

“But they’re going to have the time of their lives. When they walk out, everyone’s going to make them feel welcome. It’s going to be great.”

The introduction of the semi-final Golden Buzzer isn’t the only big change that BGT has made to the live shows. Instead of a week of semi-finals leading up to the final on a Saturday, the live shows will be spread across five weekends.

“Britain’s Got Talent will be more entertaining than ever before, not only with the addition of the Golden Buzzer for the live shows, but the semi-finals will now air live every Saturday night, claiming the weekends as the home of BGT. Be prepared for unpredictable, unmissable and unbeatable event television,” ITV announced earlier this month.

It means that the 2025 final is set to take place on Saturday 31 May, which is much later than usual in the series. However, it’s taking place at an earlier date than usual as BGT has typically begun airing in April whereas this year, it started in February.

This Saturday’s semi-final will see eight acts return to the stage for the live show – including Auzzy Blood, who received hundreds of Ofcom complaints during his audition.
