Another Coronation Street exit has been confirmed, with actor Daniel Brocklebank announcing his departure.
In news that will no doubt shock viewers amid a string of recent exits, and more ahead, the actor shared his “sadness” to be leaving the role after some huge storylines for the character in recent years. It’s been confirmed to The Mirror that his character, vicar Billy Mayhew, will leave the show next year in a “major new storyline” yet to be revealed.
After 11 years in the popular role, the character will bow out with the actor hinting it was not his decision. It’s said to be an issue led new plot according to reports, and it will see him leave the show for good next year, while details are being kept under wraps for now.
In a statement shared with The Mirror, Dan said: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.
“I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.” The Mirror has learned that a major storyline airing in 2026 will lead to the departure, but no details can be given at this time.

Corrie boss Kate Brooks also told The Mirror Daniel “will be missed” as she gave new details about the mystery plot. She told us: “Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit.
“We’re incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie’s biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul’s MND. An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes – he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles.”

Billy has not been on screen much recently, while he will feature in scenes again next week with newcomer Theo Silverton. Late last year we saw Billy lose his husband Paul Foreman to motor neurone disease.
Billy spiralled as he grieved for his partner, with difficult scenes filmed for the character. Billy has recently been back on track, but now it’s been reported the character will not be staying on the show.
It’s yet to be revealed how Daniel and his character Billy will leave, and whether Billy will be killed off. Fans will no doubt be stunned by the news, days on from the exit of Colson Smith whose character Craig Tinker was brutally murdered this week.

Daniel has been a major character on the show since 2014, but according to reports bosses decided a key storyline would see him leave for good.
According to The Sun, the actor was told he would be leaving the show by bosses, with it solely up to them and not the choice of actor Daniel. It’s thought to be a “storey-based” decision, that will result in him leaving the soap.
It follows Craig’s sad exit from the soap this week after 14 years on the show, with Colson axed from the role. His killer Mick Michaelis is also set for an exit with actor Joe Layton leaving the show this summer. Mick’s wife Lou is also thought to be departing, having only joined the show for a short stint.
Charlotte Jordan recently bowed out for good as Daisy Midgeley, while at some point in the future Debbie Webster will be leaving the show after her dementia diagnosis. Other exits have included Max Turner earlier this year, while Sue Clever will soon bow out as Eileen Grimshaw.
