The truth behind BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent’s absence revealed as she’s replaced on show by very familiar face

The reason behind Sally Nugent’s absence from BBC Breakfast has been revealed after the star was replaced on screen by a very familiar face this week.

Sally, 54, usually hosts the flagship morning programme from Salford, Manchester with Jon Kay, 55.

The pair anchor from the iconic sofa on Monday through to Wednesday, before under-fire Naga Munchetty and her co-star Charlie Stayt take over.

However, this week Sally was noticeably absent from the show, with no explanation given on air by Jon on where she had gone.

Instead, BBC News presenter Luxmy Gopal stood in for the mother-of-one.

Now, Sally has shared an insight into her absence as she posted pictures from her birthday online.

The journalist was flooded with birthday wishes from her friends and family as she reposted their tributes on her Instagram stories for fans to see.

She appears to be enjoying well-earned downtime abroad to mark her big day as she enjoyed the sushine.

In one snap, Sally looked radiant as she boasted a big smile in a white summery minidress, showing off her bronzed complexion.

Another picture showed the presenter posing with a table full of gifts, as she simply said ‘pressies’ followed by a love heart emoji.

It read: ‘Born to be wild… Til about 9pm or so…’ as Sally humorously replied: ‘Well done.’

Paying tribute to his BBC Breakfast co-host, Jon told fans: ‘Not only is 5th August International Dolly Parton Day… it’s also International Sally Nugent Day.

‘Happy Birthday to my brilliant, clever, kind and funny friend xx #bbcbreakfast #birthday’.

Sally’s break comes after BBBC Breakfast faced controversy for alleged inappropriate behaviour behind the scenes.

Presenter Naga Munchetty could face an investigation from BBC bosses after she was accused of bullying a junior colleague.

The host, 50, has been placed ‘under review’ while bosses consider escalating complaints to a formal investigation, The Sun reported.

A source said higher-ups had heard from several colleagues and logged concerns over her ‘hard’ and ‘bullying’ behaviour on the breakfast show, as well as her Radio 5 Live show.

A BBC spokesperson told Daily Mail: ‘While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values.

‘We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed.’
