Pat McAfee’s being well-tuned to what is happening on social media could prove to be his downfall after he brought up Mary Kate Cornett.
The University of Mississippi student found herself buzzing online in February for all the wrong reasons. Cornett became a trending topic on X, formerly Twitter, over allegations that she was involved in an affair with her boyfriend’s father.
Cornett, the 19-year-old college freshman in question, has broken her silence and revealed that the viral rumors have turned her life upside down. She says McAfee helped spread them by discussing them on his show on February 26.
McAfee is featured in The Athletic’s Katie Strang’s story because he was one of many media personalities to amplify the rumor.
“He [McAfee] teases the subject, asking [guest Adam] Schefter: “Have you heard about Ole Miss?” One of his cohorts says, “There is a ménage à trois …” that, McAfee adds, “has really captivated the internet.” After some more buildup, McAfee dives in.
“Some Ole Miss frat bro, k? Had a K-D (Kappa Delta) girlfriend,” McAfee says, and then he stresses the word “allegedly.”
“At this exact moment, this is what is being reported by … everybody on the internet: Dad had sex with son’s girlfriend.” Another person on set chimes in – “Not great” – and then McAfee adds: “And then it was made public … that’s the absolute worst-case situation.”
‘I would like people to be held accountable for what they’ve done,’ Mary Kate Cornett said in an interview with The Athletic.
‘You’re ruining my life by talking about it on your show for nothing but attention, but here I am staying up until 5 in the morning, every night, throwing up, not eating because I’m so anxious about what’s going to happen for the rest of my life.

‘They don’t think it matters, because they don’t know who I am and they think that I deserve it, but I don’t.’
Cornett’s attorney, Monica Uddin, says her team may look at action at those who profited from promoting a false rumor, saying to The Athletic: This is just a wild west version of a very familiar problem.
‘It’s just that it’s even worse because it’s not a company. It’s an 18-year-old girl.
‘They elevated a lie from the worst corners of (X) to millions of general sports fans just to get a few more clicks and ultimately a few more dollars. While they don’t have to deal with it after it airs, the lie is chained to Mary Kate for the rest of her life.’

Mary Kate Cornett wants redemption of her good name.
She was at the center of a cyber attack that involved sexual allegations being spread online.
The story began when X user @MAGAgeddon shared a screenshot that detailed how Cornett had sex with her boyfriend’s dad.
Evan Solis, the boyfriend, spoke out about it.
“The unbelievable rumors about my family and Mary Kate’s are unacceptable and need to be addressed,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “The accusations are unequivocally false. Also, my faith in my father and our relationship is unwavering. He is wholly innocent and being unfairly slandered with no opportunity to speak on his own behalf prior to these horrendously false statements.”
“Please know that spreading outrageous accusations with no regard to veracity is as inexcusable as starting the rumor itself. What we say and believe have real consequences for others. I pray we can use this painful moment to learn and grow going forward.”

Social media users are widely discussing the controversy while providing proof of the affair.
According to a viral post shared by X user @MAGAgeddon, Cornett allegedly became intimate with her boyfriend Evan’s father, who has since been identified as Private Banker Erik Solis.
X user @MAGAgeddon also shared an alleged screenshot of a Snapchat message explaining what Mary Kate Cornett allegedly did.
The alleged message notes that she finished her exams and would head to vacation early.

Cornett would take her boyfriend Evan’s little sister to a basketball game, and they were accompanied by Evan’s father.
After dropping off the child, Cornett and the father would go and have some drinks.
Seemed innocent enough until things got crazy.
The Snapchat message read: “They went to like dinner and drinks and was like buying her drinks and stuff and then they like got with each other or something. And then, um, that was like the 1st time.”
Cornett allegedly slept with Erik Solis.
