What’s Happening With Lorraine Kelly?

Over the past year, Lorraine Kelly has been notably absent from her own show with other presenters often stepping in to deliver the latest headlines.

And after noticing her many absences, one mysterious person decided to create an X profile named LorraineKWatch to track how many times the host, 65, presented her own show for an entire year – but they had no idea how popular the account would become.

The account, which now boasts 25,000 followers, reached an epic conclusion with a ‘Lorraine Wrapped’ on December 31, and told their loyal followers that Lorraine had hosted 59.7% of the episodes.

Now the person who dedicated themselves to the cause to provide the statistics has revealed why they devoted so much time and effort to doing it in the first place.

The whole saga began after a casual conversation with a pal about how Lorraine is ‘never there’.

The mysterious person then decided to monitor the ITV show to see just how often she was absent and thought that other people might be interested too so they began posting on X.

Their initial posts gained little traction and so they gave up. However, on January 1 2024 they decided to take things more seriously by posting consistently every day and within a few days the account went viral.

They told the Metro: ‘Within a few days, it just went viral. I got hundreds and hundreds of followers, and then it just kept building and building. I’ve managed to keep it up, and now I’m in my second year.’

Lorraine airs on ITV five days per week so the account holder has no choice but to tune in five days per week too.

They revealed on work-from-home days it’s pretty easy to tune in. However, during office days they have to be sneaky in order to not be discovered by their co-workers and admit they turn the brightness right down on their phone.

Their loved ones have even stood in from time to time when they were on vacation or at medical appointments so they could continuously post for a year.

They’ve now made checking the ITV show a firm part of their daily routine as they told the publication: ‘I wake up, brush my teeth, make a coffee, check if Lorraine is on TV, get on with my day.’

The account has now become so popular that even Lorraine has acknowledged it saying the concept is ‘hilarious’ and ‘quite bizarre’.

Speaking about the account on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour she said: ‘The amount of space I occupy in people’s heads is quite bizarre. It’s hilarious.’

They hilariously revealed to their loyal followers that Lorraine had only hosted 59.7% of the show while the remaining 40.3% was hosted by either Andi Peters, Joel Dommett, Louise Minchin, Ranvir Singh, or Christine Lampard

‘It’s fine, I don’t mind, I don’t care, I probably would have cared before but I really don’t now. It’s absolutely fine.’

Adding why she’s often absent from the show, Lorraine explained: ‘To be honest, you should never comment on things like that if you don’t know what is going on in people’s lives, but I am having to take quite a few Fridays off because my mum really isn’t well.’

Lorraine’s mother Anne lives in East Kilbride Scotland but her studio show is filmed in London.

So, Lorraine taking Fridays off means that she gets the chance to travel up earlier to spend a longer weekend with her family.

Explaining how she can now help her mother more, Lorraine added: ‘So I can go home now and spend some more time with her and help her a bit more than I’ve been able to. That’s happening just now, but that will change.’

Sharing their point, the anonymous creator said to the publication: ‘I hope it doesn’t come across as being critical because it wasn’t meant to be like that.’

They added that the account is just a ‘joke’ at the end of the day and was ‘never meant to be serious’.

They claimed that if Lorraine was genuinely upset by the account or a member of her team communicated with them they would close the account down. However, at present, they claim to have not received a single message.

They also revealed that people often slam them for not calling out other presenters when they are notably absent from other shows.

However, they claimed that This Morning is ‘not called Ben and Cat’ and Good Morning Britain is ‘not called Susanna Reid’ but there is a TV show called Lorraine where for a third of the episodes the host is absent.

The mysterious creator further emphasised that they are ‘not slagging her off for not going to work’ or ‘shaming her for not hosting the show’ but they think it is ‘funny’ that the name of the show is Lorraine.

They also claimed they ‘don’t know how much life’ the account has got left but they will continue to post for now.

They reasoned that X can be a ‘horrible place’ so they want to be the one to bring something fun to the social media platform.

The account holder has also reportedly looked into monetising the account to make it a little more worth their while.

To make money on X, you must pay for Premium which costs £11 per month. And after posting on the account for a few months, they were earning £10 on average, meaning a loss of £1. So for now, they are just posting daily updates for fun.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV and ITVX.
