”What’s That All About? Can Someone Actually Tell Me What’s Going On Here, Or Are We Just Pressing Buttons For Fun?” GB News Abruptly Halted for ‘Breaking News’—Eamonn Holmes Fumes

The energy regulator Ofgem confirmed that the annual gas and electricity bill cap will rise by 2% from October

Eamonn Holmes fumes as energy price cap rises by 2%

GB News was interrupted for breaking news as the energy regulator Ofgem revealed average annual gas and electricity bills will rise by 2% from October. It means a household using a typical amount of gas and electricity will pay £1,755 a year, up £35 a year on the current cap. Eamonn Holmes fumed: “What’s that all about? They’re charging us more for what? I don’t even know where my meter reading is!” The increase will kick in at the start of October, which campaigners say will mean another winter of rather high energy bills. Individual households can work out their estimated change by adding £2 onto every £100 they spend on energy each year.

One GB News viewer commented on the news on X: “Charging more because they can. There is no legitimate reason for it. Nat gas prices at a 14 month low.”

A second also fumed: “We are already paying more than any country on the world for energy and they want to charge us even more!!”

A third similarly echoed: “Wholesale prices are rock bottom!!! Lower than 15 yrs ago when ur bills were 60% cheaper! Make it make sense !!!

Meanwhile, Government minister Nick Thomas-Symonds spoke to BBC Breakfast about the news and said: “Reducing bills by £300 that is something we stand by, we will be looking to achieve that by 2030.”

The Labour government, which earlier this year made a U-turn on winter fuel payments, said it was determined to help families by expanding its Warm Home Discount.

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey remarked that “the last thing” families and pensioners needed was higher energy bills this winter.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Michael Shanks commented that the government wanted more clean energy produced domestically in order to bring down prices.
