GB News’ regular programming was interrupted for major breaking news as presenters Tom Harwood and Emily Carver delivered a huge update about the police investigation into Ann Widdecombe’s death. The late politician’s death was announced on Friday (July 10), and in a shocking twist, Devon and Cornwall Police revealed a 28-year-old white British man had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

During Monday’s broadcast, the hosts went live to Downing Street, where reporter Christopher Hope was on the scene and confirmed that counter terrorism police are now set to lead the Ann’s case. He stated: “This news broke for the Home Secretary after we left our briefing … that is absolutely huge.” He added: “It goes to some extent to almost justify the concern in recent days since the murder and killing of Ann Widdecombe, by Reform UK politicians.”

Christopher continued: “On the issue of Ann Widdecombe, the government says they are loath to encourage anyone to speculate about what happened. It’s important, they say, that the integrity of their work is carried out.”

This comes after Laurence Taylor, head of national Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP), issued this statement about CTP taking over the investigation into Ann’s murder.

He stated: “Building on the progress made by our colleagues in Devon and Cornwall Police, we now have new information and evidence that means Counter Terrorism Policing is now leading the investigation. We are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack.

“Our priority is progressing this investigation quickly, with all the capabilities we have available to us. If anyone has any information, please share it with the police.

“We would like to thank local communities, the wider public and the media for their ongoing support and patience, and would ask them to continue to support us in the next stage of the investigation,” Laurence concluded.
