Meghan Markle felt a “lot of sadness” after not taking part in the planned engagements during Prince Harry’s UK visit last week, according to reports. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, had originally planned to join her husband at a one-year-to-go Invictus Games event at Birmingham’s NEC.

However, security concerns prevented her from participating, and she did not attend any public engagements during the family’s trip. Now, a source told People that she is “very supportive” of Harry, meaning that she felt a “lot of sadness” in not being able to be by his side. When it comes to his family, Meghan “always lets him lead” as he navigates conflicts with his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William, another insider said.

The Sussexes’ visit from July 7 to July 10 was centred around Prince Harry’s solo public appearance in Birmingham to mark the one-year countdown for the 2027 Invictus Games. However, logistics were heavily restricted by RAVEC, the UK Government body that stripped the couple of automatic, taxpayer-funded police protection. As a result, Harry deemed it unsafe for his family to appear publicly.

Consequently, Meghan, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, skipped the events and instead the family travelled to Highgrove House in Gloucestershire for a reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla, followed by a personal visit to Princess Diana’s resting place at Althorp House.

As the meeting was kept private, Buckingham Palace provided a brief official confirmation, stating that it took place on the afternoon of July 10, describing it as a “private family occasion,” and that no official photos or press releases would be issued.

On Wednesday (July 15), Meghan spoke out for the first time since the family reunion, after receiving her first Daytime Emmy nomination for her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, which was released in 2025.

She took to her personal Instagram account to praise her “amazing crew, producers and team”, sharing the programme’s promotional poster.

She captioned her post: “A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on ‘With Love, Meghan’ on @netflix. We are nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!”

The lifestyle and cooking series sees Meghan share tips on hosting, gardening and cooking alongside a lineup of celebrity guests, including Mindy Kaling and Chrissy Teigen. To protect her family’s privacy, the show was not shot at her home, but rather filmed on location at a rented £6million rustic farmhouse nearby in Montecito, California.
