Prince Harry is reportedly hoping to make regular private visits to see King Charles as he looks to rebuild the relationship between his children and their grandfather during the Sussexes’ return to Britain.
The Duke of Sussex is said to have a very personal priority during his time in the UK: ensuring that Archie and Lilibet have the chance to properly know their grandfather and become part of his life.
According to reports, Harry is hoping to arrange an informal tea with his father roughly once a month — but there is one striking condition.
He reportedly wants to keep the wider Palace machinery out of the arrangements as much as possible.
A friend of the Duke told Daily Mail that Harry and Meghan are keen for their children to spend more time with the King after years in which the physical distance between Britain and California has limited their opportunities to see one another.
“They are hoping to see more of the King and for the children to properly get to know him and be a part of his life,” the friend reportedly said.
The source painted a remarkably low-key picture of what Harry apparently has in mind.
“I do think Harry will try to make his arrangements without involving the Palace apparatus as far as he can,” the friend said.
The idea, according to the source, would be nothing grand or ceremonial — simply a quiet Sunday visit involving tea and some time in the garden.
“A cup of tea and a run around the garden for half an hour on a Sunday, that sort of thing,” the friend added.
For Charles, such visits could offer an emotional opportunity to make up for precious time lost with his grandchildren.
The King has long been described as a devoted grandfather, and the Sussex children’s limited contact with him has remained one of the more poignant aspects of the family rift.
Harry’s reported plans come as he continues to navigate the highly sensitive dispute surrounding his security arrangements in Britain.
Despite the intense public interest surrounding his return, the Sussexes are reportedly determined to keep their profile as low as possible.
Sources have claimed that the couple are attempting to honour an agreement reached in July and present themselves as private citizens rather than returning members of the working Royal Family.
“Harry is determined to stay as much of a private citizen as possible and has been sending a message that this is what he is,” one source reportedly said.
That approach could make any private meetings with Charles even more significant.
Rather than staged royal engagements or formal appearances, Harry appears to be seeking something far more personal: ordinary family time between a father, his son and two grandchildren who have spent much of their young lives thousands of miles apart.
Whether the King will be able to enjoy more regular Sunday visits remains to be seen.
