Good Morning Britain sparked backlash minutes into their ITV breakfast show following a fresh Prince Harry and Meghan Markle update. On Thursday (September 10), Susanna Reid and Tom Swarbrick returned to the airwaves to deliver the latest news hitting the headlines. It didn’t take long for things to turn royal following reports of Prince Harry’s response to Uganda’s withdrawal from the Invictus Games.
On Wednesday (September 9), Uganda announced its withdrawal from the Invictus Games, stating that it will not participate in any event without King Charles’s approval. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba wrote on X that “Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games” because he did not want the country’s participation to be “construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere”.

The news comes just days after the palace released an explosive royal letter clarifying their royal status as non-working royals, allowing them to live as “private citizens”. Now, people close to the Duke of Sussex have blamed a letter sent on behalf of King Charles for Uganda’s withdrawal from the Unvictus Games.
Reporting outside Buckingham Palace, royal correspondent Jonathan Swain began: “I think this is the King setting out the new rules now that Harry and Meghan are back in the United Kingdom. Harry is the man behind the Invictus Games, which is taking place in Birmingham next year.
“As a result of all that, Lord Chamberlain, a senior figure within the royal household, put out a letter saying that Prince Harry was a private individual and so was his charity work. I think that Harry and Meghan were hoping that they’d be classed as public figures.
“And as a result of this letter, Uganda have now pulled out of next year’s Invictus Games organised by Harry, stating in a tweet that they didn’t really want to do anything that was against the wishes of King Charles, whom they deeply revered. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe that they pulled out as a result of that letter from the royal household at the beginning of the week.”
A source close to Harry told ITV: “Intended or unintended, this is clearly a consequence of Lord Chamberlain’s guidance regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that was rushed out without consultation on Monday. Sadly, the only people who will suffer are the Invictus Games competitors.”
The broadcaster went on: “So very much we have two sides there setting their stalls out in this new era with Harry and Meghan back here on British soil. They may be here living in the UK, but it seems the distance between Harry and the rest of his family is perhaps greater than ever.”
It didn’t take long for viewers to flock to X – formerly known as Twitter- to share their thoughts on the latest development in the royal family feud. One user penned: “Of course, Harry is blaming the palace for HIS failures [eye rolling emoji]. It’s the same ‘Poor Me’ story we’ve heard since he and his fame-hungry wife decided to leg it to the USA looking for their ‘private lives’.”
Another agreed: “Go sue you Papa! [eyes rolling emoji]. It’s only a matter of time before he does for some perceived slight. Personally, I wish we could revoke his citizenship and never let him or his Mrs set foot in the UK ever again.” A third argued: “Who can be bothered? There are far, far more important things going on in the world than this royal blige.”
