Earl Spencer has made new claims at how King Charles reacted to his late ex-wife’s de@th.

The then-Prince Charles acted “like a lottery winner” following the de@th of his beloved sister, Diana, Princess of Wales, it has been claimed. In a newly-released extract from his upcoming book, Earl Spencer alleges that Charles appeared “elated” as he spoke to him on the phone shortly after her de@th in Paris on August 31, 1997.
The extract, which has been released by the Daily Mail, Earl Spencer wrote: “The phone rang constantly. Prince [King] Charles caught me as I crossed the landing upstairs.
“Unlike my other callers, who were stunned, barely able to articulate their condolences and offers of help, he sounded giddily elated – like a lottery winner, I remember thinking at the time.”
He then said why he thought Charles may have appeared not-so outwardly distraught, writing: “Looking back now, I suspect the prince’s first reaction must have been to think more of how this event might free him to marry the woman he loved, rather than appreciating the loss of one he did not.
“It can be hard to feel too much sympathy for an ex-spouse, or those who care for them profoundly, after bitter divorce.”
The former couple had officially divorced the previous year, in 1996, with Diana in a relationship with Dodi Fayed, who also d!ed in the car accident, at the time of her de@th.
The King hit back at the Earl’s latest allegations on Wednesday. He had also alleged that the King said Diana would be “forgotten soon enough” after her de@th.

According to Page Six, multiple sources said Prince Harry was already aware of what his uncle had written and that the revelations would not come as a shock to him.
The Duke of Sussex is said to have discussed the book with Earl Spencer during a visit to Althorp in July.
It remains unknown if Prince William was aware of the book until it was recently revealed.
