The set of Question Time descended into chaos as host Fiona Bruce struggled to gain control over the panellists. The 61-year-old BBC star presented an hour of topical debate from Croydon with Wes Streeting, Helen Whately, Josh Babarinde, Caroline Lucas and James Orr joining her on the panel.

But just minutes into the programme, tensions quickly rose as the topic of US President Donald Trump attacking Iran came up. The question of the moment was whether or not the American leader had “made a mistake” as Helen said: “When we are being attacked, of course, we should do something.” She claims that Keir Starmer should have said to Iran that “We have missiles and we should use those”. But Fiona didn’t seem sure about what the panellist was saying as she extended her hands out and demanded: “Hang on, hang on! Let’s be completely clear about this.” The BBC host then turned to the audience and asked: “Are you confused?” as they answered with a resounding: “Yes!”

Wes quipped: “Think of the hokey cokey and it will all make sense – she’s in out, in out. You cannot do that.” But as he was speaking, Helen erupted, shouting over him as Fiona desperately tried to calm them both down.

After a moment, the presenter sat back and watched on as they bickered over each other so that neither of them could be heard.

Soon enough, she decided to try and step in once more as she said to Wes: “You have made your point, let Helen answer.” But the panellist ignored her and carried on making his points.

Eventually, Helen managed to get out her thoughts as she said that “we live in a dangerous world” that requires a “strong leader”.

She also called Starmer “weak and indecisive” on the US-Israel war with Iran.

Viewers at home were frustrated with the tense moment as they said it was “unwatchable”. One fan fumed on X/Twitter: “Five mins in and this is almost unwatchable – can someone tell Fiona Bruce she’s not the star of the show – be good to hear the guests, it’s also clear already this is a Labour loaded audience.”

Another echoed: “Fiona Bruce was super offended that her favourite PM was criticised so she constantly interrupted anyone that tried to argue the contrary.” One more simply noted: “Good grief. Confused!!”
