That allegation has inevitably raised eyebrows.
Harry and Meghan spent years creating a life independent of the monarchy after stepping down from senior royal duties in 2020. California became their base, while their media ventures and commercial projects allowed them to establish themselves outside the traditional royal system.
But their latest move appears to have brought them back remarkably close to the institution they once sought distance from.
One source even mocked the idea that the Sussexes intend to quietly disappear into the countryside.
“Meghan would probably prefer a parade down The Mall, but she’ll settle for tea,” the source joked.
