Good Morning Britain viewers fumed, “This is pointless,” as a fiery debate on Prince Harry erupted live on-air.

During Friday’s (March 13) episode of the ITV hit breakfast show, Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh returned to our TV screens as they presented the day’s top stories from the UK and beyond. However, it was one segment that took a turn as they welcomed Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams and Cultural Commentator Ateh Jewel to the show to delve into the issue of who should be King.

The debate heated up as they discussed recent claims that Princess Diana thought Prince Harry could one day be King instead of Prince William, and used to call him “Good King Harry.”

According to journalist Richard Kay, who was also a close friend and confidante of the late Princess of Wales, Diana had other plans for him when he was younger, and it was all down to Prince William’s “shy” nature.

Richard didn’t seem to agree as he insisted that Harry is “too emotional” and he couldn’t handle such a high-profile job.

He explained: “I think Diana may well have thought it, but one has to bear in mind, magical though she was, in so many ways, she was also deeply emotional and very often erratic. We saw that tragically, the end of her life in 1997, when Harry was only 12.”

The Royal expert continued: “She couldn’t tell by then, this was just an idea. If we actually look at what has happened, the King of England, as he would be, I mean, this is one with the Pope and the President of the United States, one of the most high-profile jobs in the world.

“Harry is deeply emotional, and he is traumatised by what happened to his mother. He said that, in fact, a click of a camera can disturb him. This would be a high-profile job. He couldn’t possibly handle it.”

Ateh disagreed as she snapped back:” I have been Team Harry and Meghan for years, and I think they represent a very diverse, modern Britain. I’m very proud to be British. I’m very proud to be a Nigerian and have Trinidadian heritage as well.”

She continued: “This is a prince who has put his body and his blood and his life on the line, in active duty, combat for his family, shown huge amounts of integrity, literally protecting his wife and his family’s mental health, whisking them away, and saving them from what was obviously seems quite a toxic environment.”

Addressing Richard’s comment, she added, “This is someone who has shown huge grit, resilience, and steel, and I think to say he couldn’t handle it is ridiculous, quite frankly, in my opinion.”

As the pair went back and forth, viewers watching at home wasted no time sharing their reaction on social media as they slammed the segment, insisting it was a “waste of airtime”.

One viewer said: “What a ridiculous rage-baiting irrelevant topics of conversation. #GMB.”Another fumed: “What a waste of airtime. Harry will never be King.”

Another snapped: “So just another day on normal island then, but what pointless rubbish is this for a talking point this morning, and since when did we get to choose the king?”

One fumed: “There’s clearly no news this morning if this is being discussed. A situation that wouldn’t arise now anyway, Harry is further down the line of succession than ever. Pointless debate!”

Meanwhile, another added: “This is a pointless conversation because it would never happen anyway! #GMB. “Grasping at straws for a news story.”
