Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could get an eye-watering amount of money if they sell their mansion in Montecito, a property expert has told the Daily Express. Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated from California to Britain with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.

This move marks the first time Harry and Meghan have lived in the UK since 2020 – the year they quit royal duty and moved to America. While the move back to Britain is believed to be permanent for now, it has been reported that the family are still keeping their Montecito mansion in California. This may raise some eyebrows, especially as the couple could get over £37 million for the property, according to one expert.

Speaking exclusively to The Daily Express, Jack Malnick, Managing Director of Sell House Fast, said Harry and Meghan could get over double what they paid for the home in 2020 if they were to sell now.

He said: “Despite Harry and Meghan not yet listing their Montecito mansion, as the pair settle into life back in the UK, the alleged $600,000 annual running costs may change their mind.

“Having bought the property in 2020 for a fraction of the listing price ($14.65 million compared to $34.5 million), the couple could be set to make a pretty penny should they decide to sell. Montecito is a highly sought-after area, with properties now selling for double what the couple paid back in 2020. Listing records show that three homes in the area have sold for $50 million this year.”

The expert continued: “Adam Levine sold his 13,000 sq ft, three-acre Montecito home in 2025 for $60 million; for comparison, Harry and Meghan’s home is 18,000 sq ft and sits on seven acres.

“I’d expect the ‘Sussex effect’ to add a premium to the property value, and given the current market, I’d predict the couple could command north of $55 million should they decide to sell.

“There will most likely be a fight amongst agents to win the listing, and the media spotlight could drive the price even higher.”

It is believed the couple currently have no intentions to sell their home in Montecito, California. This is despite the fact it will be costing them money to keep the property running in their absence as they live in a private, rented home in Britain. Harry and Meghan have not made any public comments about their decision to leave California and move back to the UK.
