Emma Willis jokingly ordered a major BBC star to leave her radio studio after she discovered that he had access to air conditioning in his palatial Essex home. In recent months, the UK has been battered by repeated heatwaves that, combined with a lack of rain, have dried out large areas of the country.
The temperatures have proved stifling and energy-draining for many, leading to sleepless nights, with hundreds of people opting to invest in air conditioning to help manage the heat. One of the lucky few with air conditioning, Rylan Clark, appeared with Emma, 48, during her BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday afternoon. The hilarious moment occurred when new Strictly Come Dancing host Emma, 48, was preparing to pass control of the airwaves to 37-year-old Rylan.

While the presenters caught up live on-air, she asked how he had been coping with the heat. In response, the presenter of BBC Radio 2’s Rylan on Saturday confirmed he had, though under circumstances far from ideal.
He explained: “I want to say yes, because I don’t want to be that Brit that sits there and moans about the sun. But I would prefer to enjoy the sun next to the sea with a drink in hand, not wearing many clothes and not trotting about the UK working and going to places that don’t have air conditioning. That’s where I’m at!”
In response, Emma asked whether Rylan had air conditioning in his bedroom, to which Rylan confirmed he did. In reply, former model and Love Is Blind UK co-host Emma playfully declared with envy: “Arrghhh. Get out of the studio!”.

Rylan proceeded to describe how life-changing the addition of air conditioning to several rooms in his property had proved, to the point that his mother and Celebrity Gogglebox co-star, Linda, had visited for several nights to avoid the sweltering heat.
He said: “One of the best things I ever bought was air con – air con in the kitchen, where I mainly sit. I’ve got air con in the bedroom, I’ve got air con in my guest bedroom, which is why my mum has come and stayed for the past two nights. So it is one of the things that I’m glad I’ve got, 100 percent. I can’t sleep in a hot room. I just can’t do it.”

Emma’s funny interaction with Rylan comes as she prepares to begin her first season on Strictly Come Dancing, joining Strictly professional Johannes Radebe, 39, and Josh Widdicombe, 43, as co-hosts of the programme.
Taking over from outgoing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, there has been much intrigue as to how the trio will make the programme, returning in September, their own.
Speaking to The Sun about if Tess and Claudia had spoken to her ahead of the big debut, Emma admitted they had reached out, and had been reassuringly positive, too.
She explained: “We’ve had a little back and forth, yes, and they were lovely. They just said, ‘Congrats, well done, you’ll smash it’. And I was like, ‘S***!’ No tips. Just lots of kind words.”
In a statement following her announcement as part of the presenting line-up Emma said she had been a “huge fan” of the show and that she was still, at the time, struggling to comprehend that it was happening. She said: “To be stepping into the Strictly ballroom is something I can’t quite comprehend.”
Following the news, Rylan, who was considered for the role, also expressed his congratulations to Emma, Josh and, Johannes.
He said: “This wasn’t my time sadly but I’m extremely grateful to even have been considered. Genuinely looking forward to the new series with you three.”
