Prince Andrew will be summoned to give evidence about his links to paedophile financier, Jeffrey Epstein, in front of a US committee, it has been reported. This is the latest update after it was confirmed by Buckingham Palace that Andrew will no longer use his Duke of York title and after details of his lease at Royal Lodge emerged.

Stephen Lynch, a senior member of the US House Oversight Committee, has said he wants to speak to the King’s younger brother “regarding his involvement in all of this.” The congressman went on to say that he was “sure” an invitation would be issued to Andrew to speak about his association with Epstein.

However, it is important to note that the beleaguered royal cannot be subpoenaed to attend a hearing in the US as he is a UK citizen, and it would therefore be his choice whether or not to give evidence.

The committee is currently examining the bombshell documents, which are known as the ‘Epstein files’, and Andrew faced fresh criticism after his name appeared in the latest papers tied to Epstein’s estate. The papers were published by the committee last Friday.

Mr Lynch was asked by presenter Victoria Derbyshire on the BBC’s Newsnight: “Would you consider inviting Prince Andrew to speak to your committee?”

He replied: “We would be extremely interested in hearing from Prince Andrew regarding his involvement in all of this, yes.”
