Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid says ‘it makes me emotional’ as she pays poignant tribute to late co-star after BBC Breakfast reunion

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid said ‘it makes me emotional’ during a poignant tribute to a late co-star.

On Wednesday’s (March 4) episode of the ITV show, Susanna and co-presenter Ed Balls, 59, were joined by guest Dr. Sian Williams.

Susanna, 55, and Dr. Sian, 61, both formerly presented rival programme BBC Breakfast opposite the late Bill Turnbull.

Ahead of chatting to the now-psychologist, viewers saw a brief clip of Bill and Dr. Sian presenting BBC Breakfast.

During this, Susanna can be heard saying: ‘It makes me emotional just to see him there!’

Bill and Susanna worked together on Breakfast from 2001 to 2014, when the latter moved to join ITV.

Meanwhile, Bill himself remained with the programme for a further two years before also bowing out.

The presenter tragically passed away in August 2022, aged 66, having announced in 2018 that he’d been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

At the time, Charlie Stayt said on BBC Breakfast: ‘Welcome back. We have some sad news to bring you this morning.

‘Our former colleague, former Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull has died. He had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017.’

Naga Munchetty then read out a statement from his wife Sesi which said: ‘Our lovely Billy died yesterday evening almost five years after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

‘The last week of his life was very special – as the whole family was with him and we shared some wonderful moments.’

Susanna also paid tribute to her long-time colleague, as she said at the time: ‘I was absolutely knocked sideways yesterday by the loss of Bill.’

She continued: ‘He was such a funny person to be around… and I don’t want to sound sombre talking about him because he had such a sense of humour.

‘I remember when he presented on this programme, we called him a ‘saucepot’ because he definitely had a way with the double entendres, he really did.

‘He was delightful company.’

Elsewhere, streamer and I’m A Celebrity winner AngryGinge, 24, left Susanna wincing after he took a swipe at Ed during Tuesday’s episode.

He was joined by Loose Women star GK Barry, 26, and former England and Manchester City captain Steph Houghton, 37, to discuss Soccer Aid.

Susanna told the trio: ‘I would just like to point out, if you have a hole in the squad, Ed Balls is absolutely desperate to take part.’

A very sad Ed explained: ‘They never picked me. They never picked me.’

She asked: ‘Could he be on the bench? If you just grab the ball and give him a try out… where has the ball gone?’

As Susanna got up to find the football, AngryGinge asked if he would be able to do kick-ups in his smart shoes, and Ed told them: ‘Can I just say, I had a trial for Wolves when I was 11!’

AngryGinge brutally asked him: ‘Right, and how old are you now mate?’

The star’s comment left the whole studio in stitches, with even the camera crew heard stifling laughs.

Ed replied: ‘Older than that!’

Earlier on in the interview, Richard dubbed Ginge ‘man of the match’ and then asked him: ‘Back for more?’

Ginge replied: ‘Absolutely. It’s an amazing event. Love it. 31st of May, tickets on sale now.

‘You get to meet people, for me, personally, you grew up watching and raise a lot of money for a great cause.’
