TV star Kim Kardashian was criticized for being “vulgar” when wearing Princess Diana’s cross necklace with a low-cut dress.
According to the Daily Mail, Kim Kardashian attracted attention when wearing the iconic amethyst necklace at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles on November 2. In 1987, Princess Diana borrowed this necklace from the Garrand brand to wear at the Birthright charity gala and many other important occasions. In January 2023, Kim Kardashian paid nearly $200,000 to win this memorabilia at a Sotheby’s auction
After Kim Kardashian’s image appeared on news sites, many people commented that the mother of four looked “shallow” when combining the relic with a revealing dress. On X, one person commented: “If she wants to wear a necklace with a sacred religious symbol, at least match it with the class of Princess Diana to show respect.”
Traditionally, amethyst symbolizes the privilege of the British royal family. Princess Diana’s choice to wear a large pendant and unusually long chain was considered daring. A representative of British jewelry brand Steven Stone told Page Six: “Very few people could wear such an unusual item, except Princess Diana.”
Some individuals mocked Kardashian for choosing this accessory because of her desire to be associated with the royal family. Another wrote: “Maybe she wants to be remembered with timeless legends like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Diana, so she decided to spend money on class.” Kim Kardashian has not commented on the incident.
This isn’t the first time Kim Kardashian has worn clothes from famous women. At the 2022 Met Gala, she borrowed the tight-fitting dress Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang Happy Birthday to US President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
