A couple appeared on A Place in the Sun: What Happened Next? to share an update on their home renovation years after buying.

A Place in the Sun host Ben Hillman was left speechless with the renovations one couple made to their Spanish home.
In 2022, Paul and Nicola took the plunge and decided to splash the cash and buy a holiday home in Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote. At the time, Ben was on hand to help the couple from Liverpool find their dream property in the Canary Islands.
In the end they fell in love with one apartment that was over budget and needed a lot of work but after some negotiation they managed to knock the seller down.
Now, four years on, the couple appeared on Tuesday’s (March 17) episode of A Place in the Sun: What Happened Next? And reunited with Ben, who was keen to see what they managed to do with their home.
Walking in, Ben gasped: “Oh my goodness, seriously, guys, this is incredible. It’s a lot different. I mean, I get it it’s the same, like the layouts the same, which is what you loved but apart from that, my goodness it is completely new property, isn’t it?”

Turning attention to the kitchen, Ben asked: “Paul, that is your domain over there. How is that panning out? Paul replied: “Yeah, It’s perfect. There is plenty of space in there and we have many home cooked meals in there, working really well for us. Fully fitted as you can see, so it’s not lacking anything.”
Keen to find out more on their renovation process, Ben asked: “How easy is this to achieve when you don’t know a builder here, you don’t know how much things cost you, you don’t necessarily know where to get everything from. How was that?”
Nicola explained: “Recommendations for the fantastic build who’ve done where the complex. We went shopping with the big major stores to buy the kitchen, the bathrooms, the tiles.”

Ben asked: “And you felt comfortable you were back in the UK while most of it’s being done?” Nicola said: “I was having a lovely time because he was sending pictures of holes in the floor and holes in the walls and I loved that.”
It was a different story for Paul as he said: “I didn’t like any of that and I’ll never forget that moment, the flight back the first time to see it all done. It was such an exciting flight and then you know, the key in the door again.
Ben turned to the couple and asked: “After all that heartache, Paul. Is it worth it?” Paul replied: “Yes.” Nicola added: “Yes absolutely.”
