Princess Kate marks St Patrick’s Day with a special visit to the Irish Guards
The Princess of Wales brought a touch of royal sparkle to the Irish Guards as she marked St Patrick’s Day with a special visit to Mons Barracks in Aldershot.
Princess Kate, serving as Colonel of the regiment, handed out traditional sprigs of shamrock to officers and guardsmen — and even made sure the regiment’s adorable Irish Wolfhound mascot didn’t miss out.
Looking relaxed Kate also spent time chatting with the ‘Mini Micks’ young junior cadets from Northern Ireland, delighting the next generation of soldiers.
In a day packed with ceremony, she presented long service and good conduct medals. The Irish Guards, known for their bravery and skill, play a crucial dual role – from frontline combat to specialist operations involving machine guns, anti-tank missiles, mortars and reconnaissance missions.
