Nigel Farage Launches Petition to Stop Labour–Tory ‘Collusion’ and Demand Local Elections

Britain Is Manifesting Nigel Farage as Its Next Prime Minister | The New Yorker

Nigel Farage has launched a fiery campaign to protect local democracy, accusing both Labour and the Conservatives of “colluding to silence the British people” by scrapping upcoming local elections.

The Reform UK leader announced a nationwide petition calling on voters to oppose what he described as an “outrageous attack on democracy” after reports suggested that the Government may cancel local elections for more than five million Britons.

The move comes amid claims that seven Conservative-led county councils — including East Sussex, Essex, Hampshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Surrey, and West Sussex — have asked the Government to postpone elections scheduled for May 2025, citing “administrative pressures.”

Farage, visibly furious in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), blasted the proposal as a cynical ploy to block Reform UK’s growing momentum in traditional Tory heartlands.

“Last year, Angela Rayner, then Deputy Prime Minister, simply cancelled the elections, claiming they were delayed by a year. Coincidentally, those were all areas where Reform was expected to perform strongly,” he said.
“Now Conservative council leaders are writing again, asking for another delay — even admitting they’re afraid Reform will win. And Labour looks set to agree! This is a complete outrage.”

Farage warned that the postponement amounts to the suppression of democracy, saying:

“Only dictators cancel elections. We cannot and will not allow this to happen again.”

A statement on Reform UK’s official petition site read:

“Last year, Labour and the Conservatives colluded to strip millions of Britons of their right to vote. Now, they’re doing it again. Wherever you live in the UK — sign our petition to let the people vote.”

The campaign has already drawn thousands of signatures within hours, tapping into growing public frustration over what many see as a two-party stitch-up to preserve power and deny the electorate a genuine choice.

Farage, who returned to Parliament earlier this year as MP for Clacton, has vowed to “fight tooth and nail” to defend voters’ rights — framing this battle as a test of whether Britain remains a functioning democracy or a closed shop run by Westminster elites.

“This isn’t about Left or Right anymore,” he said. “It’s about the people versus the p0lit!cal establishment — and the people must win.”
