This Morning presenter Alison Hammond has faced backlash during a royal segment on the ITV daytime show. On Friday (July 10), there was quite the presenter shake-up as her co-host Dermot O’Leary fronted the lunchtime show alongside former Strictly star, Angela Scanlon. Meanwhile, Alison was over in Birmingham for the countdown to the Invictus Games.
Founded by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games is a global sporting competition that began in 2014 for military personnel and veterans who have been wounded, injured, or become ill during their service. The name Invictus, which means ‘unconquered’ in Latin, reflects the resilience, determination, and strength of participants.

During the live TV segment, Alison battled other on-site journalists in a desperate attempt to secure an interview with the Duke of Sussex. The former Big Brother star did manage to steal a hug from him when he spotted her, with the Brummy native cheekily referring to the royal as “babes”, leaving viewers very unimpressed online.
Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – many viewers branded the segment as a “car crash”, with one user writing: “I’m just waiting for her to call him ‘Babes’. She didn’t disappoint.” Another fumed: “Alison, what on God’s Earth are you doing? Absolutely embarrassing behaviour! Are you 6 years old?!”
A third viewer chimed in and wrote: “What a car crash and a bloody noise.” A fourth echoed: “Hammond… just an embarrassment,” while a third chimed in with: “This is embarrassing.”
However, others loved Alison’s approach to the Prince, with one gushing: “Howling at Alison. You go, girl.” Another agreed: “Harry always has some spare time for Alison.” Later in the programme, Alison managed to have a proper chat with the royal about next year’s Invictus Games.
Talking about why they decided to choose Birmingham to host the event, the dad-of-two said: “It’s great, like Birmingham is the centre point of where so many of the wounded soldiers came back from Afghanistan.”
He also described the event as a “homecoming” for many veterans. The prince also mentioned stories from veterans in Ukraine and how Invictus has helped that specific community.
