Meghan Markle is reportedly keen for Prince Harry to shift his attention away from ongoing royal tensions and focus instead on the couple’s life and ambitions in the United States.
The Duchess of Sussex and the Duke are said to have returned to the UK earlier this month for a low-key reunion, with the pair reportedly choosing not to make the trip a major public event.
The decision to remain out of the spotlight came after speculation from some royal observers about whether the visit could be used to reshape public perceptions of the couple or lead to further revelations about their relationship with the Royal Family.
Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, were reportedly able to attend a Chanel event at Highgrove House with their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, without the level of media attention that has often accompanied their appearances.
For Meghan, the reported return marked a significant moment after years of living in the US. The trip also prompted discussion about whether reconnecting with the UK could help improve perceptions of her and support her lifestyle venture, As Ever.
However, shortly afterwards, the Duchess reportedly received a boost when her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, was said to have been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award, ahead of her reported appearance on MasterChef Australia.
A source quoted by Closer claimed Meghan now wants Harry to put greater focus on their future in America rather than continuing to concentrate on disputes involving the Royal Family.
The insider said: “Meghan feels she’s done her bit to help him. She went to England, kept out of sight, and abided by all the rules because she knew how important the trip was.
“But now that they’re back home, she’s saying it’s time to forget about the royals and put their energy back into the life they’re building in America, which really means focusing on her and her brand.”
Why does Meghan reportedly want a change of focus?
The claims come after months of speculation surrounding the couple’s finances and how they will continue to support their lifestyle in Montecito, California.
Closer reported that Meghan has faced changing public opinion in the US, citing YouGov America polling figures which it said showed a decline compared with the previous year.
The publication reported that 37 per cent of voters said they liked Meghan in 2025, compared with 29 per cent at the start of this year.
The report also referred to Newsweek’s coverage of separate data suggesting traffic to Meghan’s As Ever website fell by 89,000 in the US during January.
The reported Emmy nomination is said to have provided Meghan with renewed momentum, with the awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on September 14.
According to the insider, Meghan wants Harry alongside her as she enters what she sees as an important period for her career.
The source said: “She’s got a lot going on over the next few months and she wants her husband to stop making everything about his battles with the royals and let her needs take precedence for a little while, she feels that’s more than fair.
“She’s getting this significant push in Australia and of course her show has been nominated for an Emmy, which is huge, and she has no intention of squandering the opportunity.
“She’s very excited about Emmy night, she’ll be with all sorts of power players and her peers so it will be an amazing chance to network, and she wants Harry by her side for that.”
Why has Meghan’s Netflix series faced criticism?
Despite the reported recognition from the Emmy nomination, With Love, Meghan has faced criticism from some reviewers.
Closer highlighted the programme’s reception on Rotten Tomatoes, where it reported the lifestyle series received a low review score.
The publication also referred to reported viewing figures falling from 5.3 million for the first season to 2 million for the second.
A PR expert quoted by the magazine commented on the reported decline, saying: “In any normal boardroom, a drop-off that severe means failure.”
However, even among Meghan’s critics, an Emmy nomination can carry a level of recognition within the entertainment industry.
