Flau’jae Johnson’s mother, Kia Brooks, oozed confidence ahead of LSU women’s basketball’s massive game against Tennessee. On January 8, Brooks, who is also Johnson’s manager and handles her NIL portfolio, took to Instagram to share her thoughts on LSU head coach Kim Mulkey’s comments about the opposition.
In her latest Instagram post, Brooks shared a picture of Tennessee duo Zee Spearman and Jewel Spear. It had a comment from Mulkey’s pre-game press conference on January 7, where she mentioned the Lady Volunteers’ head coach, Kim Caldwell’s system “unlike anything I have ever seen.”
Brooks responded to Mulkey’s comments with the caption for her post.
Brooks wrote, “And we still ain’t scared,😂😜 Let’s Geaux Tigers !!”
The Lady Volunteers have made a strong start to the 2024-25 season with a 13-1 record. They first broke into the AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll on December 9, taking the No. 19 spot and have featured in it ever since, a fact which Mulkey also acknowledged in her press conference.
“What has been good for her is, she’s had two coaches before her, so she’s not really following in the footsteps of Pat Summitt,” said Mulkey. “Will that aura always be there? Sure, that’ll always be there. But be who you are.
“What she does is totally different than what Pat did, but it’s very successful. And it’s brought crowds to the game, it’s put them in the top 25 and so what she does is what she believes in, and it’s working.”
The game between No. 6 LSU and No. 16 Tennessee will take place at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville at 6:30PM ET.
Kia Brooks helps Flau’jae Johnson amass $1.5 million NIL portfolio
With the help of her mother, Flau’jae Johnson has arguably established herself as the highest NIL-earner in women’s college basketball. Per On3, she has a NIL valuation of $1.5 million, signing lucrative deals with the Unrivaled Basketball League, Mercedes-Benz of Baton Rouge, JBL Audio and The Athlete’s Foot.
On the court, Flau’jae Johnson has enjoyed an incredible junior season so far. She has averaged 19.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists, and will be keen to boost those stats and help the Tigers clinch victory against the Lady Volunteers.
