Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson received the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom. He received the honor from President Joe Biden on Saturday at the White House. The honor is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the prosperity and values.
After receiving the award, Johnson shared his gratitude, expressing deep emotion and pride. Johnson went on to thank his family, mentors, and everyone who has supported him throughout his journey. He stated that the award is not just a personal achievement but a shared honor with those who have contributed to his life and work.
“I am so humbled and overwhelmed with emotion right now. It is an absolute honor and privilege that President Joe Biden selected me for the esteemed Presidential Medal of Freedom award. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that this kid from Lansing, MI would one day grow up and receive one of the highest civilian awards of the United States,” Johnson wrote.
“I accept this honor with a deep sense of responsibility. It serves as a reminder of the work still ahead and the change we can all help bring about! I promise to keep working to make a positive difference for our country and the world,” he ended.
Magic Johnson Congratulates Denzel Washington On Presidential Medal Of Freedom Honor
In addition to Magic Johnson, legendary actor and director Denzel Washington was among the distinguished recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Magic Johnson expressed his admiration for Washington on his X account. He congratulatinged his friend for receiving the nation’s highest civilian honor.
“I want to thank my business partner Eric Holoman and his wife Terry for supporting me at today’s ceremony. I want to congratulate my great friend Denzel Washington on receiving his President Medal of Freedom today as well! What a moment!” Johnson wrote.
After the Lakers drafted in 1979, Johnson spent 13 seasons in the NBA. Throughout his illustrious career, he guided the Lakers to five NBA championships. Since his retirement, he has been attached to many philanthropic activities.
