Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley was unexpectedly replaced on Monday’s episode of the show by a star who ‘has never worked with Susanna Reid before’

Good Morning Britain viewers were left stunned on Monday morning as Richard Madeley was abruptly replaced, with a last-minute stand-in taking his seat beside Susanna Reid — and immediately confessing he had “no idea what he was doing.”

Joking that he doesn’t ‘know what I’m doing’, ITV News editor Paul Brand was all smiles on the programme after Susanna explained that Richard was a ‘little bit poorly’

Industry favourite Paul Brand, UK Editor of ITV News, made the unexpected appearance after Susanna explained on air that Richard was feeling “a little bit poorly” and was watching from home. Despite his nerves, Paul was all smiles as the cameras went live.

Paul and Susanna shared a smiling selfie to their respective social media channels, with Paul writing: ‘Back on @gmb tomorrow and Tuesday, 6-9am. Not short of news!! See you then. #Monday #Tuesday #gmb’

Opening the programme, Susanna announced:
“Good morning Britain, it’s just gone 6 o’clock. Richard Madeley, who was due on air this morning, is a little bit poorly — so get well soon, Richard, if you’re watching from home — as Paul Brand takes your hot seat.”

Paul, laughing at the situation, replied:
“Good morning. Yes, get well soon Richard… and come and help me out, because I don’t know what I’m doing! I’ve never sat next to you before, Susanna — this is fresh territory for me.”
