Kate Martin has not forgotten Caitlin Clarkdespite 2272 miles splitting them apart as she fondly remembers their time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, where they played alongside each other from 2020-2024.
Whilst perhaps not the most talented player to ever come out of the program, the 24-year-old Martin is definitely one of the most popular and is always a welcome sight at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.
Always embraced by her old teammates when she sees them, the Golden State Valkyries‘ guard decided to pay her friends back with a loving post to start 2025 that included Clark, Jada Gyamfi, Monika Czinano and Gabbie Marshall.
“I’d go everywhere with these folks, including into year ’25 #newyearswag,” Martin wrote to Instagram, with the collage of photos showing the women on the court, at parties and playing around with a mascot statue.
The photos showed being close to family is clearly important to Martin too, as she added her girlfriend, sister and brother-in-law to the snaps, which earned over 115,000 likes on the website.
Together, Clark and Martin helped spur the Hawkeyes on to a national championship game.
Although they were defeated by Angel Reese‘s LSU Tigers, a year later they rebounded to make the NCAA final again, but lost to the unbeaten South Carolina Gamecocks.
Martin joins the Valkyries
Martin posted averages of eight points, 2.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game, although this is pulled down from her 2019/20 season when she played 24 games but only averaged 8.1 minutes per appearance.
Her final year stats with the Hawkeyes in 2023/24 included 39 starts for 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Jimmy Butler is done with the Miami Heat even before getting the job done he was brought in for. The NBA superstar has called off ties with his current team and his decision is not sitting with the Miami fanbase.
The visibly enraged fans are taking to the streets in response to the sign-off. No, they are not parading in support of Jimmy and asking him to come back. Rather, they are setting a higher standard for subtle discontent. Miami fans have turned against All-Star Jimmy Butler, as evidenced by the recent defacement of his mural in Wynwood. CBS 4 in Miami reported that the artwork now bears a clearance sticker and the word “TRADE!” emblazoned on Butler’s Heat jersey.
The reaction came after Butler expressed his desire to be traded and talked about losing his “joy” for basketball. And that led the artist to make some bold changes to the mural. Now it features an image of Butler wearing a headband that says “I Quit.”
The misery came in hard for the Texas-born basketball star as the franchise suspended him for seven games, citing “conduct detrimental to the team.” This came to a head during the Heat’s tough loss to the Utah Jazz, where player Tyler Herro tried to downplay the internal turmoil as a reason for the defeat. His comments show that the team is trying to keep their spirits up and come together in the face of adversity.
