The Cleveland Browns can’t seem to catch a break with Deshaun Watson.
The quarterback is now at risk of missing the entire 2025 NFL season as he has torn his Achilles again, with tests revealing as much this week. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Watson underwent surgery to repair the tendon on Thursday.
This comes just three months after the QB sustained the original tear.
“Sources: #Browns QB Deshaun Watson ruptured his Achilles again, further testing showed, and he had another surgery on Thursday to repair it,” Rapoport reported on Friday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that Watson met with Dr. Robert Anderson on Thursday before the injury.
Watson previously ruptured his Achilles on October 20, which marked the second straight year his campaign was cut short prematurely due to an injury.
The quarterback went down during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7. Recovery from such injuries takes six to nine months, which leaves Watson in danger of missing out on the 2025 season entirely or at least a significant portion of it.
Deshaun Watson Has Given Cleveland Very Little Since Signing Record-Breaking Deal
Watson has only played 19 games for the Browns since joining them on what was a record deal in 2022. He started his spell with the team on suspension and has missed multiple games due to injury since then.
Browns general manager Andrew Berry had indicated that the player had suffered a setback in his recovery while speaking to reporters in a season-ending press conference this week.
The team has the No. 2 overall pick for the upcoming NFL Draft. It’s now likely that they will select a quarterback.

The Baltimore Ravens have announced that Zay Flowers will not be with them when they play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs this Saturday.
The wide receiver is set to miss his first NFL game because of an injury after hurting his knee in Baltimore’s division-clinching victory over the Cleveland Browns last week.
“Zay Flowers is not going to be able to make it to the game this week,” Ravens head coach Harbaugh said on Thursday, per NFL.com. “So he’ll get started again next week and we’ll move forward with the guys we have and we’re excited about the guys we have, which is everybody else.
The second-year star made 74 receptions for 1,059 yards and four touchdowns during the season.
Rashod Bateman will step in as the main wide receiver option for Baltimore this weekend. Bateman had a career year in which he made 45 catches for 756 yards and nine scores. Only tight end Mark Andrews had more TDs this term.
