Kevin Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns appears to be coming to an end. The two-time NBA champion is set to enter the final year of his contract, worth $54.7 million, but multiple reports suggest that the Suns will explore trading him this summer.
One of the strongest rumors surrounding Durant’s next move involves the Houston Rockets. Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix believes Houston could be a realistic landing spot for the superstar. He cited his respect for Rockets head coach Ime Udoka and the team’s potential as a title contender.
“It’s no secret that Phoenix will split with Kevin Durant this summer. Durant has one year left on his contract and, even approaching 37, still has incredibly high value. I think—and this is just my opinion—that Durant wants to wind up in Houston,” Mannix reported.
Mannix pointed out that the Rockets were interested in acquiring Durant before the trade deadline, but a deal never materialized. However, that could change this offseason.
“Durant has a lot of respect for Ime Udoka, and in Houston, he could be a missing piece to a title contender. I’d keep an eye on that after this season,” Mannix added.
What Does Kevin Durant’s Probable Trade Mean For Suns And Rockets?

For Phoenix, moving Durant signals a shift toward a new era. After forming a star trio with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, the Suns failed to meet championship expectations. They currently hold a 34-37 record after winning over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Trading Durant could help them retool for the future and bag the players they need to reshape their roster.
As for the Rockets, adding Durant could instantly turn them into contenders. Houston already boasts young talents like Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and Jabari Smith Jr., who helped the team to improve to the second seed in the West. The Rockets team is already a threat in the Western Conference. If Durant joins them, don’t be surprised if they clinch the title in the next few seasons.
Durant’s future remains one of the biggest storylines in the NBA. Whether he lands in Houston or elsewhere will remain to be seen
