Cameras caught Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward throwing shade at Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders during their practice session together at UNLV.

Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the consensus top-two quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft class. Though scouts are divided on them, both figure to be top-10 selections.

With the draft approaching, the two prospects got together to work out at UNLV. What was supposed to be a friendly workout session appeared to get a little testy, however, when Ward criticized Sanders’ style of play:

“They gave you a completion percentage award when all you did was throw check-downs and bubble screens, nothing crazy. If I did that, my completion percentage would be 90. I throw the ball downfield, you don’t.”

Sanders clapped back at Ward and told him, “You ran the ball. You had a run game, you had a run game.”

Deion Sanders’ son completed 74 percent of his pass attempts in 2024 for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and four rushing touchdowns. Cam Ward completed 67.2 percent of pass attempts for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions to go along with 204 rushing yards and seven rushing scores.

Ward certainly benefited from a strong rushing attack, with running back Damien Martinez posting 1,002 yards and 10 touchdowns. His understudy, Mark Fletcher Jr., had 607 rushing yards and nine rushing scores.

Colorado’s leading rusher, Isaiah Augustave, had just 384 rushing yards and four touchdowns. As a whole, the Buffaloes had just 847 rushing yards.

Cam Ward Ranked As Top QB Prospect By Daniel Jeremiah

While ESPN’s Mel Kiper ranked Shedeur Sanders as the top signal-caller in the 2025 Draft, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has Cam Ward ranked slightly higher. In his first set of the top 50 prospect rankings, Jeremiah ranked Ward as the No. 10 player (Sanders is 11th).

Ward and Sanders have plenty of upside and the tools in place to be exceptional franchise quarterbacks. But like most other top QB prospects, it largely depends on the team fit and supporting cast.
