Football fans are loving Ian Rapoport’s execution of the “breaking news wave” on NFL Network’s “Free Agent Frenzy” program today.
The official league new year begins on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m EST, but teams can negotiate and finalize the framework of trades and free agent signings today. NFL insiders like Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter, Tom Pelissero, Mike Garafolo, Josina Anderson, Jordan Schultz and Dianna Russini will be working tirelessly over the next 48 hours to keep fans updated on the biggest moves around the league.
To keep his colleagues and audience posted, Rapoport is performing a “breaking news wave” to signal a big trade or free agent signing. It’s simply his nicer way of interrupting his coworkers when big news comes in:

And Ian Rapoport’s priceless breaking news wave led to plenty of hilarious responses from fans on social media.
“I love it 😂,” one fan said.

“We are back baby,” wrote another.

“We can see you,” a user wrote.

“RapSheet with the elite scoop game!” a fan commented.

“Has perfected the breaking news wave 👋,” said a fan.

“Practice and experience 🤣,” a fan said.

It’s been a busy 24 hours for Ian Rapoport, who also jumped on Sunday’s news of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ blockbuster trade for Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf and Davante Adams’ two-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams in free agency.
Rapoport has been with NFL Network since 2012, so it’s not like free agent frenzy is nothing new for him. But this is the first time we can recall the popular insider using the so-called “breaking news” wave, so let’s hope it’s here to stay.

With Rapoport and other top insiders being glued to their phones and computer/laptop screens this week, it’s safe to say they won’t be getting a whole lot of sleep. Quite frankly, the scoops never stop for these folks during the opening week of free agency.
So a hard-working and popular insider like Rapoport shall treat himself to as much coffee as needed this week. He’ll need all the energy he can get to keep his body upright through what will be a not-so-sleeping-filled week.
