Janet Street-Porter has shared a health update with fans following hip replacement surgery.

The Loose Women panellist, 77, recently announced that she was taking a break from the ITV daytime show to undergo the surgery. And while she admitted she was feeling nervous ahead of the operation, she has now taken to Instagram, showing she was recovering well and was seemingly in good spirits.

Janet posted a selfie from her hospital bed wearing a gown and a breathing tube. She captioned the post: “Three hours after hip replacement masses, of strong pain relief, resulting in the huge smile of relief! Then the drugs wore off…but I’m walking with a trolley HOORAY XX.”

Her post was quickly commented on by fans and her celebrity pals. Katie Piper, who regularly shares the panel with Janet, wrote: “So happy to see you smiling and walking already.” Martin Kemp penned: “Get well soon, Janet!!! Mx.” And Ruth Langsford wasted no time in wishing her pal well. She said: “It’s done, Janet! Good to see you smiling (even if it is the drugs!!) Missing you….get back to soon!”

This comes after the journalist-turned-presenter told fans she was bowing out of Loose Women for a short while in order to have the surgery. She said at the time: “I can’t think about anything else. As I’m sitting here, I’m shaking, and my hands are freezing cold. I keep dreaming about it. I’m just going to go into hospital on Friday, have the operation on Friday afternoon, stay in hospital for a few days and then really, really work at rehab and physio so that I can come back as soon as possible.”

Her fellow panellist Coleen Nolan said it was “really sad” Janet was going through a tough time. She said: “You always put on this tough persona and nothing bothers you. And then, at one point today, you said, ‘I’m really scared,’ and I could have cried my eyes out.”

Janet has been on the show since 2011 and is loved by fans for her straight-talking personality. The TV star has appeared on a number of reality shows including Celebrity MasterChef and in 2004, she was also part of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, where she finished fourth.

The star recently left her fellow panellists in shock as she revealed details of an affair many years ago. She said: “There was another guy I was having an affair with, and one day, he thought I was going to go along with his fantasies. And just as the butler in our hotel gave us our drinks, he started taking off hand cuffs and a whip. I’ve never been more embarrassed in my life. I got quite drunk and we managed to enjoy ourselves without resulting into some sort of hardware.” She added: “In the morning while he was sleeping it off I handcuffed his hands to the bed.”
