Meghan Markle may have privately shared details of her family’s planned return to Britain with Sarah Ferguson before the move was publicly announced, according to a royal author.
Andrew Lownie has suggested that Sarah could have known in advance about plans to enrol Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet at a school in the Cotswolds.
However, the claim remains speculation. There has been no official confirmation from Meghan, Sarah, Princess Eugenie or representatives for the Sussexes that such a conversation took place.

Lownie proposed two possible ways Sarah could have received advance knowledge of the Sussexes’ decision.
The first possibility was that Eugenie had been told about the plans and later shared the information with her mother.

However, Lownie said he believed a direct conversation between Meghan and Sarah was the more likely explanation.
“More likely, I feel, is that Meghan revealed the plan to Ferguson herself,” he wrote.
The author did not provide direct evidence that Meghan disclosed the information, and his wording made clear that this was his interpretation rather than a confirmed account of the meeting.
Questions also remain over whether Meghan and Sarah were together in Portugal and, if so, what they discussed.

Lownie suggested Meghan may view Sarah as someone who can understand the pressures and difficulties that come with falling out of favour with the royal establishment.

The author argued that this perceived common ground could have encouraged Meghan to speak openly with Sarah about her family’s plans.
“Very few people on the planet have personal experience of what that’s like, and both will benefit by sharing their notes,” he said.
His comments suggest that any private conversation may have extended beyond practical details about Archie and Lilibet’s schooling to their broader experiences of royal life.
