Paul Sinha hit out at a comedian who was “nasty and rude” to him when they met. The 55-year-old is best known for being a professional quizzer on ITV’s The Chase, but he has also been a stand-up comedian for more than 25 years. However, he revealed the harsh realities of meeting fellow comedians as he detailed a frosty exchange with one of his idols. Paul made the confession during an appearance on the Bad Boys Done Good podcast, when he was asked: “Who’s the biggest d*****bag you’ve ever met in TV?”
“This is a safe space. You could be honest,” hosts Ray Winstone and Tony Soprano declared. Recalling the uncomfortable encounter, Paul said: “Well I was at an ITV party a few years ago when somebody basically was really, really nasty and rude to me in conversation. He continued: “When I was trying to sort of fanboy him and hero worship him. In the end he told his mate, you don’t even know who this t**t is. And they walked off together laughing at my discomfort.
“And I wanted to shout out, ‘you’re not even the funniest person in your marriage. That would be Jennifer Saunders’.”
He added: “Yeah I’m talking about Adrian Edmondson… he’s a d*****bag.”
Edmondson, 68, has been married to actress Jennifer Saunders since 1985 and the couple share three daughters.
He is best known for starring in British sitcoms The Young Ones and Bottom, and had a long-running comedy partnership with Rik Mayall, which was pivotal to his early career.
Before joining The Chase in 2011, Paul worked as a doctor. He has starred in a number of TV shows, including The Weakest Link, University Challenge: The Professionals, Mastermind and Taskmaster.
Since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019, Paul has been open about how it has impacted his comedy career.

Speaking on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, he said: “I have no idea how long I’m going to be a stand-up for, because I get more tired with every passing year. I just want to go up and do a show that is fun.
“Without wishing to sound bleak, my time is running out. I don’t know to what degree my time is running out. It could be five years; it could be 10. I just want to go, ‘I’m enjoying myself.’ I think it’s important to end your career with no regrets.”
Last month, Paul appeared on The One Show where he detailed the “worst week” of his life after undergoing open-heart surgery.
“I had a coronary artery bypass operation, which I can honestly say was the worst week and a half of my life,” Paul confessed. “Everything has been a sort of comeback since then. Steady, unspectacular comeback, no great drama.”
Following on from his terrifying ordeal, Paul declared: “Life’s short, and I think it’s very important to get the balance right between doing the right thing for your health and not getting rid of the stuff in life that brings you joy. It’s a difficult process and it’s a difficult balancing act.”
