Prince William’s response to Earl Charles Spencer’s bombshell claims in his new book have been “exposed” by a royal historian on GB News. In an extract of the book Swan Song: Diana, My Sister released by the Daily Mail, Earl Spencer claimed that the now King Charles was “giddy” at Diana’s death, knowing he could then marry Camilla.

The “deeply damaging” claims were dissected on GB News, with royal historian Alex Larman explaining of the book: “It’s tawdry. That’s the only way of describing it – there is something vulgar about this, it’s very hard. You can see there is no need for this story to be emerging now – 29 years is a terribly long time to hold a grudge. He is bringing out this story at a very damaging time for the Royal Family, because even before this, it’s been a difficult year for the King not just because of his health but because of continued family tensions.

“You can’t help feeling that he’s taking revenge on the King, whether this is true or not. He’s obviously got it in for him and in for the Royal Family.”

He added: “You think back to his speech at Princess Diana’s funeral, which was essentially a declaration of war.

“It’s taken him this long to actually publish this revelatory book, but we’re going to see very shortly exactly what else is in there, and I suspect it’s going to be deeply damaging. Whether it’s damaging for him or for the royals is what we’re going to find out.”

Larman was asked: “How do you think Prince William is feeling about all of this? Because he has spent decades now, imploring those continuing to profit from his late mother’s memory to let her finally rest in peace. Now he’s going to have to say the same thing to his uncle.”

He theorised: “It’s interesting, isn’t it, because we hear that Harry is very close to Earl Spencer. We don’t hear that William is very close to Earl Spencer. You’d imagine there are some very tense WhatsApps going round at the moment.

“Obviously, William is going to be king at some point in however many years, and he very much sees himself as this reforming monarch, the person who’s going to take the difficulties and controversies of the last few years and build it afresh.

“But things like this are damaging the institution of the monarchy, so he’s going to be looking at this and thinking, ‘Why do we have to deal with this? Why is my uncle doing it?’
