Harry And Meghan Land Back In Britain As William And Kate Grow Increasingly Wary Behind Palace Doors
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly arrived in Britain with their children, but their return appears unlikely to bring an immediate end to the long-running royal rift.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were said to have flown privately from California on Wednesday alongside Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five. According to reports, the family landed at Birmingham Airport around lunchtime.
However, Harry and Meghan have not publicly confirmed that they are in the country. Asked about the claims, a spokesperson for the couple said: “This is not something we would comment on.”
Their reported arrival comes six years after they stepped back from royal duties and moved to North America. Yet despite renewed hopes of a family reconciliation, Harry reportedly remains estranged from Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.
William and Kate expected to remain cautious
Brand expert Nick, who was previously described as a friend of Meghan, suggested that William and Catherine would be reluctant to move too quickly.
“William and Catherine are likely to be extremely cautious,” he said. “They will want to protect the stability of their own family and avoid being drawn into another cycle of speculation, private conversations becoming public and every interaction being analysed.”
Neither Kensington Palace nor representatives for the Sussexes had offered further comment.
The continued silence means there is no indication that William and Harry have arranged a meeting or taken any significant step towards resolving their differences.
While King Charles is reportedly open to spending more private time with Harry and his family, William’s position remains far less clear. The brothers have yet to reconcile after years of public tension and damaging allegations.
Archie and Lilibet reportedly preparing for UK schools
Reports claim Archie and Lilibet are expected to attend school in Britain from September as the Sussex family plans to remain in the country for an “extended period”.
The schools have not been identified, and the location of the family’s new home is also being kept private because of security concerns.
Harry and Meghan are reportedly planning to live in a privately owned property rather than a royal residence. Suggestions that they could settle in the Cotswolds have circulated, although no location has been confirmed.
The couple are also expected to retain their Montecito mansion and their property in Portugal. Their time in Britain therefore does not necessarily represent a permanent move away from the United States.
Despite returning to the UK, Harry and Meghan reportedly have no intention of resuming their former positions as working royals.
Harry is not expected to carry out official duties or receive public funding. Instead, the couple will continue pursuing their independent commercial projects, including Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle brand.
That arrangement would keep them outside the model rejected under the 2020 Sandringham Agreement, which prevented them from combining formal royal duties with private commercial work.
King Charles reportedly welcomes family reunion
The Sussexes’ reported arrival follows a private reunion with King Charles at Highgrove in July.
Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet were said to have spent time with the King, while reports also claimed the couple met Queen Camilla. The proposed UK stay was reportedly not discussed during that gathering.
Charles is nevertheless said to welcome further opportunities to see his younger son and grandchildren privately.
Harry was already expected to return to Britain in September for work connected to his patronages, including a possible appearance at the WellChild Awards.
Security, however, remains one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the family’s stay.
Harry previously took legal action over changes to his police protection after stepping away from royal life, but lost the challenge. He has repeatedly expressed concern about bringing Meghan and their children to Britain without the security arrangements he believes they require.
Reports have not revealed what protection the family will receive during their extended stay.
For now, Harry and Meghan are reportedly beginning a new chapter in Britain without returning to palace duties. Whether that move creates an opening for peace with William and Kate — or leaves the brothers as divided as ever — remains uncertain.
