King Charles is set to make a speech tonight (December 12) about his cancer journey. The monarch shared his diagnosis of an undisclosed form of the disease in February 2024, while the Princess of Wales has also been open with world about her own cancer diagnosis that same year. Now the King is supporting Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK’s Stand Up to Cancer campaign with a new video message.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed the King will make a speech at 8pm GMT tonight, which was recorded in advance two weeks prior. It will advocate for the importance of cancer screening checks to help the public catch the disease in its earlier stages. It is unlikely King Charles will tell the public which type of cancer he is facing.

Earlier this year, King Charles told guests at Buckingham Palace that his own experience of living with cancer showed that “the darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion.”
The speech will be available to view live on Channel 4 tonight at 8pm, and will later be available to stream on the network’s free app or catch-up service.
Also airing on Channel 4 for this year’s launch of Stand Up to Cancer will be a special programme at 7:30pm, in which Adam Hills and Hannah Fry join special guests for an evening of comedy and fundraising.

Afterwards, a special charity version of Celebrity Gogglebox starring Kieran Culkin, Joe Marler and David Tennant will air, starting at 9:10pm, followed by Stand Up to Cancer’s Big Bash at 10:10pm.
At 11:15pm, a special edition of The Last Leg will air in aid of the charity, before Channel 4 airs a repeat of Rhod Gilbert’s documentary A Pain in the Neck, charting his own journey with head and neck cancer, at 12:20am.
