BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to share their thoughts about the show’s brand new addition.
The long-running programme returned to screens on Saturday (August 2) – with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt back at the helm.
However, things were looking slightly different on BBC Breakfast as the show included an interactive crossword for viewers to take part in.
“This reason we’re doing this by the way, is that this week has been 100 years since the first cryptic crossword was published,” Charlie shared, before the puzzle appeared on screen.
Naga then said: “‘The answer to this is a TV presenter familiar for king and country, we hear’ that’s the clue. The first word has seven letters and the second has five.”
Fans soon reacted to the new addition to the show. On X, one person fumed: “In a bid to generate a bit of interactive viewer interest for their dire weekend edition #BBCBreakfast sets us a crossword poser. (Complete with visual hint.) Smug Naga knows the answer, Charlie doesn’t. Cue yet another bickering session.”
Another disgruntled viewer penned: “Cryptic crosswords? Cryptic Crosswords? Bloody rubbish!” Once the answer was revealed later on, a thid penned: “Thank god that’s over.”
Meanwhile others were quick to guess and share their thoughts on what the answer could be.

Someone on X mused: ““TV Presenter famous for king and country, we hear” Charlie Stayt (King Charles, State).” Another also chimed in: “Charlie Stayt.” The viewers guessed correctly as later on, the answer was revealed to be Charlie Stayt.
Elsewhere, on the show Charlie dropped details of his co-star’s job away from BBC Breakfast.
Charlie told sports journalist Ben Croucher: “You are a man of many talents I have only recently discovered because you are a fully qualified football referee?”
Ben confirmed to him:”Fully qualified football referee in my spare time – just at the grassroots level, nothing too elaborate.”
