SAD NEWS: Susanna Reid Breaks Down On GMB As She Announces D3ath Of ‘Brave, Determined Woman’ Who Inspired Millions

During Thursday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, presenter Susanna Reid paused to pay tribute to Baroness Helen Newlove following news of her d3ath.

The announcement comes just days after colleague Ranvir Singh interrupted the programme with breaking news earlier in the week.

As she concluded a discussion on the day’s top stories, the ITV star remarked: “Just before we go, Baroness Newlove, the victims’ commissioner, who did so much for those without a voice who are victims of crime.

“Her own husband was murdered by a gang of teenagers, and she died aged 63. She was appointed victims’ commissioner twice as she was doing such a good job.”

Speaking to guest Baroness Ayesha Yousef Hazarika, who appeared on the programme, Susanna noted their acquaintance through the House of Lords.

Ayesha responded: “This is absolutely devastating news. She was such a brave, principled, and determined woman.”

“I mean, she had gone through this unspeakable tragedy with her own husband. Her entire family had been affected by it.

“What was so great about Baroness Newlove is that she always spoke for the victims, and she was completely cross-party, she reached out to everybody, and she spoke from the heart, she was very good to me in the House of Lords.”

The guest told presenters Susanna and Richard Madeley that Baroness Newlove had been a ‘strong voice’ for those affected by crime, reports Wales Online.

Susanna ended the segment saying: “We send our love to her family.”

The Office of the Victims’ Commissioner announced the sad news in a statement, saying: “We are deeply saddened to share that Baroness Helen Newlove, the Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales, has passed away following a short illness.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time. Helen was a committed and passionate advocate for victims, drawing on her own experience of the criminal justice system.

“She was determined that all victims should be treated with compassion, decency and respect – and she consistently led by example.”

Following the announcement of her d3ath, tributes have been flooding in from political figures, including Justice Secretary David Lammy.

He stated: “Helen was an extraordinary public servant whose life’s work and her legacy are defined by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice.”

Former Conservative prime minister David Cameron also paid tribute, saying: “Desperately sad to hear that Helen Newlove has died. Helen was so wonderful, warm, brave and plain speaking. She suffered the tragedy of watching her beloved husband, Garry, being murdered by thugs – and then turned that experience into a second life of service.”

He concluded his heartfelt tribute with: “My thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Helen’s husband, Paul, and her daughters, Zoe, Danielle and Amy. Helen leaves a legacy that they – and we all – can be proud of.”
