Meghan Markle has been slammed for the timing of her new Instagram post, with one royal commentator accusing her of attempting to shift attention away from Prince George. Last week, the Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to share photographs from her family’s recent summer holiday, believed to have been partly in Portugal and the UK.
As well as scenic photographs, Meghan posted numerous snaps of her husband Prince Harry, alongside their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meghan’s latest social media post has been slammed by royal correspondent Rupert Bell, who described them as unnatural and commercially motivated, while claiming she was attempting to steal the spotlight from Prince George, who recently celebrated his 13th birthday.

During an appearance on TalkTV, he argued: “Once again, it’s trying to take the shine away from the Waleses. It was George’s birthday recently and they shared all the pictures of him.
“It’s also about proving that they are welcome back in the UK by showing that Charles Spencer, Harry’s uncle, was happy to have them stay. But where’s the privacy because I thought they didn’t want pictures of their children splashed all over social media?
“I thought they believe that, although the facts don’t back up that because they say people should be protected by social media but, once again they’re using their children to create this image of happy families.

“It may have been a very happy trip but why do we feel the need to endlessly see pictures? And obviously the element of going to see Diana’s grave site. It’s also saying, ‘We are welcome back in the UK.’ That’s what it’s out to try and prove from the Sussexes perspective.”
Presenter Mark Dolan agreed, questioning why Meghan would want to share more photos of their children as it will no doubt bring further attention to them.

Royal commentator Rupert Bell claimed there is something “freaky” about the photos shared by Meghan (Image: TalkTV)
Rupert supported this query, adding that the Sussexes share photos in a “freaky way”, unlike Prince William and Princess Catherine.
He claimed: “They produce these photographs in a slightly freaky way. All we get is back views. Whereas with the Waleses, they’re controlled. We saw official photographs of George when he turned 13. Absolutely right. It’s done in a way that’s part official because George is the future king.
“It is a sort of timeline of his progression into adulthood and then ultimately he will succeed to the throne. That’s all part of a historical narrative. But for the Sussexes it’s a different narrative.
“It’s trying to prove that they are still relevant over here. I just find images just a little bit freaky in a way. They don’t seem natural. Everything is photographed from behind. The visit was a private one, yet the Sussexes are still doing their best to show, ‘You may not have seen me but I was here and I am welcome with elements of the royal family.'”
