Gogglebox adds new cast member (Image: Channel 4)

Channel 4’s Gogglebox has announced the arrival of a “new cast member” as one much-loved family has expanded, much to the delight of fans. Manchester’s Worthington clan, featuring mum Alison, partner George and son Helena, made their debut in 2017 and swiftly captured hearts nationwide and now they have introduced someone new to the line up.

The family took to Gogglebox’s Instagram on Tuesday (October 21) to unveil their adorable new feline companion. Alison announced in the clip: “So by public demand, we want to introduce you to someone very special….” George interjected: “Just before we do some filming,” as the camera revealed Helena cradling a black cat. “Who’s this! Awww!” he gushed. Helena showered the pet with kisses before admitting: “Oh you smell. Oh I think he released something then,” whilst placing the creature down. The post was simply captioned: “New cast member announcement.”

Predictably, supporters were delighted by the family’s latest recruit, with one fan declaring: “Love love them.” Another enthusiast remarked: “Love them Helena is so funny.” A third chimed in: “Aw I love that.”

However, others were a bit disappointed as they thought it would be another baby being born. “I thought was new baby news,” one said, while another echoed: “I thought Helena was going to show her new baby then lol”.

The Channel 4 programme has introduced viewers to countless memorable families since launching in 2013. Fan favourites include Hull’s best pals Jenny and Lee, Cotswolds couple Andrew and Alfie, and North London sisters Amira and Amani.

Off-screen, talented artist Helena shares her life with boyfriend Dan and is mum to six-year-old Irwin. Her artwork has been displayed in prestigious locations such as The Whitworth Art Gallery and The Manchester Open at Home, with her paintings being part of various private collections.

In an exclusive chat with ilovemanchester.com, Helena opened up about her personal life. Reflecting on the beginnings of her artistic journey, she confessed: “When I was very little I used to draw on the walls and in my mum’s cookbooks and then blame it on my brother… so I guess that was the start of things.”
