Darragh Ennis has opened up about what it’s really like working with his quiz show co-star, Bradley Walsh, admitting that he’d “love to dish some dirt”. In a recent episode of the Dempsey’s Dozen podcast, Darragh (aka The Menace) described the much-loved ITV presenter as the “ultimate professional”.

Bradley, who’s been hosting The Chase since its first episode in 2009, is a “really good guy”, according to the Irish entomologist, who praised the father-of-two’s ability to “read things at speed”.

In fact, when asked if Bradley is as “nice a guy as he comes across,” Darragh was quick to share his verdict. What will surely please his fans is that the quizmaster’s comments about the presenter were all positive.

Darragh said: “Much, much nicer in real life. I’d love to dish some dirt, you know, behind the scenes. Brad is an ultimate professional. Like, his ability to read things at speed (and scan answers and everything) is epic.”

He continued: “Yeah, he’s great, he’s really great, very easy to work with, but he is so nice and so funny, and he leads sort of [an] atmosphere and a culture in the production company where there’s no bad behaviour. And he very much leads that, he’s a really good guy.”

Darragh became the sixth Chaser in 2020, joining Mark Labbett (also known as The Beast), Shaun Wallace (The Dark Destroyer), Anne Hegerty (The Governess), Paul Sinha (The Sinnerman), and Jenny Ryan (The Vixen).

He was the first person to successfully move into the role of Chaser after initially appearing on the show as a contestant. Speaking previously to the ECHO, he said he thankfully didn’t get “stage fright”.

Darragh said: “I did well on the quiz, but a lot of people do. I don’t get stage fright. I don’t get rattled by cameras or anything and a lot of people do. That can subtract a bit from how well their personality comes across.

“So, because I had that advantage, maybe they just saw something and thought ‘this fella is very relaxed on camera’, which is a big part of the job. It’s not just about knowing stuff. It’s about being calm enough in the moment to recall everything quickly, so I think just a combination of those things.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Bradley was described as being left “white as a sheet” when he travelled to Japan with his son, Barney, as part of the show, Bradley and Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad.

Speaking on Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, they discussed navigating a rope bridge. Chris said: “You genuinely have the vertigo, because you could tell.”

Bradley replied: “I know, people think I’m making it up,” as Chris backed him up, saying: “There’s no way, you were white as a sheet.” Barney added: “It does terrify him.”

A fear of heights is known as acrophobia (the term vertigo is often mistakenly used to describe this), which can lead to certain physical reactions, such as sweating, nausea or light-headedness, writes Healthline.
