The most glamorous night in fashion has officially arrived, and no one is reading the style forecast better than TODAY’s beloved weatherman, Al Roker. As the Met Gala kicked off on Monday, May 5, Al made a head-turning appearance on the iconic carpet, proving that when it comes to red carpet fashion, he’s more than ready to deliver — with a 100% chance of charm, polish, and undeniable flair. Dressed in a look that was equal parts dashing and dapper, Al radiated confidence as he walked the famed steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, surrounded by some of the biggest names in entertainment and fashion.

In a light-hearted prelude shared on TODAY’s Instagram, fans got a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Al’s transformation — from laid-back casualwear to full Met Gala sophistication. The video captured the magic of his metamorphosis and showed just how effortlessly he embraced the evening’s sense of grandeur. For longtime viewers who know him as the friendly face delivering weather updates each morning, this stylish reinvention was a delightful surprise — and a reminder that Al Roker can shine in any forecast.

“Oh, no! It’s almost time for the Met Gala!” Roker says, standing in a doorway dressed in a casual T-shirt and shorts as he looks at his watch. The next shot shows Roker’s big look for the night: a deep blue jacquard tuxedo coat, a baby blue tie and a black top hat.

“Time, tied and fashion wait for no man!” he says before whisking away.

In an Instagram shared earlier that day, Al credited Brian Hawkins of Mitchells for his suit and Marc Williamson of FlameKeepers Hat Club for his hat.

Once Al got to the carpet on the famous steps of the Met, he had a special encounter — with his wife, ABC News’ Deborah Roberts, who was also there as part of the press. They adorably said hello to each other while joking, “I didn’t know you were coming!”

This year’s Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” pays homage to dandy fashion and Black craftsmanship. It’s especially fitting that Roker, a trailblazer in broadcasting and an adored presence on TODAY, will be attending a night about Black influence and legacy. It’s a moment his fans on Instagram were quick to applaud.

“It’s the Dandy for me 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾you look awesome 🤩,” one person wrote in the comments.
