American Idol is facing major backlash after viewers called out judge Carrie Underwood for what they described as “harsh” and “rude” comments during a recent episode. As the competition heats up with only five contestants remaining, tensions are already high — but Carrie’s critique of one particular singer struck a nerve with fans, who took to social media in droves to express their disapproval.
While the country superstar is widely respected for her career success and prior Idol win, many felt that her feedback crossed the line from constructive to cutting. Some even went as far as demanding that she be replaced on the judging panel next season, arguing that her tone lacked empathy and that her delivery was unnecessarily blunt for a show that prides itself on nurturing talent.
Supporters of the contestant in question were quick to defend them online, calling Carrie’s comments “discouraging” and “out of touch.” Meanwhile, others debated whether her honesty was simply misinterpreted. Still, the uproar has clearly left an impression, sparking broader conversations about the role of judges on the show and whether empathy is being sacrificed for dramatic effect.
With the finale drawing closer, producers now find themselves navigating a storm of viewer opinions — and it remains to be seen whether Carrie will respond to the criticism or whether the show will make any changes to the judging panel in the seasons ahead.

Disney Night continued for a second night on American Idol on Monday, after Sunday saw two acts axed.
A further two singers were then booted off the show and out of the Top 5, with the final three revealed.
Breanna Nix, Jamal Roberts and Slater Nalley made it into the Top 3, with one of the trio issued some “harsh” critique by judge Carrie last night.
Jamal, 27, performed Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s hit Ain’t No Mountain High Enough from the 2000 Disney sports film Remember the Titans.
After he crooned the hit, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie gave him a standing ovation, while Carrie remained in her seat, smiling but looking ready to give her feedback.
Not only did the country singer not stand for Jamal after he performed, but she slammed his stage presence.
Complimentary at first, Carrie commented on his “incredible voice” when she gave her feedback.

But she then said that Jamal missed an opportunity.
“I feel like you missed such an opportunity to move around and entertain,” she said.
“We are getting close to the end here, it is time to pull out all the stops.

“And we know you have that in you. So like pull us all in not just with your voice but everything else going on.
“Put 100% of yourself into it. Let’s go,” she added.
Reacting to Carrie’s judging and comments directed to Jamal, one person said, “Please be fair and balanced in your feedback. All we as the viewers ask. In the most respectful way, we come to you.”
Another slammedm “You were out of line about Jamal tonight. Everyone gets to stand still, but he has to move around!! Really?”

While a sixth said, “Your so unfair can’t stand your rudeness.”
NOT SHOW’S FIRST CHOICE
This comes after The U.S. Sun revealed that the decision was “not unanimous” to have Carrie take the place of Katy Perry when she stepped onto the panel at the start of the season.
According to a production insider, Carrie was “not the network’s first pick to be a judge this season.”
“They spoke with a handful of other A-list artists in pop and country before landing on Carrie.
“It was not a unanimous decision,” the insider added.
Not only this, The U.S. Sun also revealed that the American Idol crew thinks Carrie’s “influence” is “ruining” the show’s legacy.
CARRIE’S RULES
The hit singing competition, which Carrie won, tested out its first-ever faith-based episode on Easter Sunday.
Carrie “pushed for” the faith-based episode despite there being a divide among the crew.
Apparently, some of the crew did not agree with the theme.
Although the three-hour special was popular among some, members of the crew felt it was “inappropriate.”
