BREAKING: Coronation Street star Joe Layton keeps getting same message about Mick return

Coronation Street’s Joe Layton has responded to the surge of messages he’s received following his dramatic comeback to the cobbles.

Viewers of the ITV soap believed his character, Mick Michaelis, was securely incarcerated after being arrested for the savage murd3r of PC Craig Tinker in May.

However, this is soap land. In Monday’s episode, the murd3rer was seen making a daring escape from Weatherfield Prison, aiming to reunite with his family.

Mick was spotted crawling under a laundry van before later emerging onto the street, tipped off by Brody that his daughter Joanie was at Weatherfield High.

Brody, who is aiding his escape, informs Mick, who has crawled under a laundry van before later appearing to see his child again.

Mick, played by Joe, stormed the factory to locate Joanie, taking Tim and Sarah Platt hostage in the office.

Kit pursued, leading to a tense showdown as Mick realised Joanie was being helped onto the roof by Sally in an escape attempt.

Sally tried to soothe the frightened child amidst the turmoil below, where Mick wounded Kit, leaving him in a critical condition, before heading to the roof to face a scared yet resolute Sally.

In her final plea, Sally vowed to Mick that she would care for Joanie and Shanice, promising them a brighter future, as he surrendered to the police.

Viewers were quick to laud Joe’s portrayal of Mick – and plenty have sent him the same comments cheering him on about the Soap Awards.

Joe posted to his fans: “Very grateful for this nomination and all the kind messages you’ve sent about Mick the ******. Vote all thinks @coronation street,” also sharing a link to the 2025 voting page for the awards ceremony.

Joe’s six-month tenure as Mick has garnered him a nod for best villain, with his name among the shortlisted candidates for this year’s Inside Soap Awards.

Facing competition from Corrie’s Claire Sweeney (Cassie Plummer) and EastEnders’ Jonny Freeman (Reiss Colwell) and Navin Chowdhry (Nish Panesar), Joe is vying for the villainous accolade.

The category also includes Emmerdale’s Ned Porteous (Joe Tate) and Oliver Farnworth (John Sugden), as well as Hollyoaks’ Gemma Bissix (Clare Devine) and Jeremy Sheffield (Jeremy Blake).
