Good Morning Britain was interrupted for a breaking news update on Wednesday as presenter Charlotte Hawkins confirmed some tragic news. The ITV presenter announced that at least seven people have died after a cargo plane crashed during takeoff at Louisville International Airport in Kentucky.
Charlotte added that “at least 11 others have been seriously injured” as she explained that the aircraft had been carrying around 140,000 litres of fuel when it burst into flames. The ITV show then cut to a report from Hannah Kings, who told viewers: “Moments after take off UPS flight 2976 hit the ground, sending columns of smoke into the evening sky.” The screen showed plumes of smoke and fire as the reporter added: “Seven have been confirmed dead.”

The report explained that four of those who died were on the ground and “officials expect those numbers to grow” as three crew members who were on board are still “unaccounted for, feared to have been killed”.
The report then shared a clip of an official holding a press conference where he admits: “We are all very, very worried for them.”
Hannah then added that several buildings near the crash also went on fire, with more than 100 firefighters being called in to battle the flames as people scrambled to ensure everyone was safe.
Thankfully, the fires are now contained but “everyone within a mile of the site are still under orders to shelter in place.” The report also confirmed that emergency services are still searching for victims.
Cutting to a clip of the press conference, a member of Louisville Metro Council, Betsy Ruhe, said: “We all know somebody who works at UPS and they’re all texting their friends and family, trying to make sure that everyone is safe. Sadly, some of those texts are probably going to go unanswered.”
Hannah heartbreakingly said: “For this town, the events of just a few seconds will have a lasting impact.”
