Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has made his thoughts known on the Dallas Cowboys’ pursuit of Deion Sanders after team owner Jerry Jones spoke to the Colorado head coach
CeeDee Lamb seems to be on board with the Dallas Cowboys’ pursuit of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
On Tuesday, Lamb “liked” a social media post from FOX Sports reporting that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had discussed the franchise’s vacant head coach position with Sanders. One day prior, Dallas and Mike McCarthy agreed to go their separate ways after the two sides failed to negotiate a new deal.
While Lamb appears content with the Cowboys’ decision to show McCarthy the door, not everyone was pleased with the decision. On the latest episode of ‘The Edge’ podcast, star pass rusher Micah Parsons expressed sympathy for the 61-year-old, who compiled a 49-35 record over five seasons in Dallas.
“I’m obviously very sad because of the relationships we had with Coach McCarthy and everything he’s done for our program,” Parsons began. “Three straight 12-5 seasons, playoff appearances and obviously an unfortunate year due to injuries. … It is devastating.
“Coach Mike is a great father, great coach. One of the most winningest coaches. He’s always been good to us as a unit, coaches, players. Losing a great coach like Mike hurts.”
Though Lamb and others have already begun recruiting prospective coaches to the Cowboys, it remains to be seen if Sanders – one of the favorites to land the team’s HC job – is even willing to come to Dallas.

Speaking to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday night, Sanders reaffirmed his commitment to Colorado, where he signed a five-year, $29.5 million contract on the heels of the 2022 season. However, the 57-year-old conceded that the opportunity to return to the Cowboys – the franchise he played for 1995-1999 – was “intriguing.”
“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” he said. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”
Following the Buffaloes’ stellar 2024 campaign during which they finished 9-4, Sanders has received no shortage of interest from HC-needy teams across the league – yet he’s time and again expressed little interest in departing Colorado for a position at the professional level.
“I’m happy where I am, man,” Sanders told reporters back in November. “I’ve got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is? … That means I’m resting. I’m good, I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do.”
That isn’t to say that Sanders wouldn’t consider taking a coaching job in the NFL should the right opportunity arise. While making an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America 3” last week, the ex-NFL star explained that he’d only return to the league if a team agrees to add Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Shilo Sanders to their roster.
“You know what? The only way I would consider it is to coach my sons,” Deion said. “Not son, sons. I love Colorado, I love my Buffaloes, I love everything we’re doing and we’re building and I love Boulder, Colorado.”
