Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs look to have found a solution to their offensive line issues after it was announced they signed tackle Jaylon Moore to protect Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes has a new protector.

As free agency unofficially began on Monday, it was announced the Kansas City Chiefs had come to terms on a deal to sign offensive tackle Jaylon Moore on a two-year, $30 million contract. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers back in 2021, the Western Michigan product has played in 55 games, 12 of which he has started.

Moore played in 15 games during the 2024 NFL season, starting five games for the 49ers. And his signing should alleviate some of the rotational offensive line issues the Chiefs had last season.

Kansas City used four different players at left tackle last season, with 2024 rookie Kingsley Suamataia, Wanya Morris, D.J. Humphries, and guard Joe Thuney all tasked with protecting Mahomes’ blindside during the campaign. After the former trio failed to nail down a starting spot for the Chiefs, Kansas City kicked Thuney out to tackle while moving Mike Caliendo to fill in for him at left guard.

While Thuney, an All-Pro guard, started during the playoffs for the Chiefs, and in their Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles at tackle, he was recently traded to the Chicago Bears after Kansas City opted to franchise tag their other guard, Trey Smith.

The signing of Moore likely means the Chiefs envisage their offensive line, from left tackle to right tackle, looking like this for the 2025 NFL season; Moore, Suamataia (who is set to kick inside), Creed Humphrey at center, Smith at right guard and Jawaan Taylor at right tackle.
